This year Ramadan was celebrated with a seminar followed by a special “iftar” dinner organized by The Culinary Arts Center and NAR Restaurant. The speaker at the seminar was Nedim Atilla, a journalist, and food culture researcher. Mr. Atilla spoke of the old Ramadan traditions and dishes unique to the Ramadan period. There was also a showing of “Karagöz and Hacivat” shadow theater, which was a very popular Ramadan entertainment. At the end of the seminar, Mr. Atilla invited the guests to the NAR Restaurant for the iftar dinner.
İftar dinner was prepared by the chefs of NAR Restaurant; it consisted of NAR Gourmet brand’s jams and honey, green olive salad, egg salad, wild purslane salad, okra cooked with verjuice, baked vegetable casserole, lamb stew with bechamel sauce. Purple basil and poppy flower sherbets accompanied dinner that ended with a sweet note of sour cherry cake with mastic ice cream.
